Manuela Hoechstetter, MD
Specialist in internal medicine, haematology and internal oncology
Dr. Hoechstetter completed her medical studies between 1992 and 1998 at Ludwig Maximilian University (LMU) in Munich and the University of Bologna (Italy). After working as an intern at Medical Clinic III at LMU Munich, Großhadern Campus (Prof. Hiddemann), Dr. Hoechstetter received her full medical licence in 2000.
In 2001, she completed her experimental doctoral thesis on structural and functional relationships between Src kinases and focal adhesion kinase with the oncogene bcr-abl in the context of the pathogenesis of CML at LMU Munich under Prof. Hallek.
In 2000, Dr. Hoechstetter began her training as an internist at the Medical Clinic III of LMU Munich, Campus Großhadern (Prof. Hiddemann). While continuing her medical work, she began her scientific work at the study centre of the German CLL Study Group (DCLLSG). In 2006, Dr. med. M. Hoechstetter was recognised as a specialist in internal medicine, and in 2009 she was awarded the designation of specialist in haematology and internal oncology by the Bavarian State Medical Association.
In 2010, Dr. M. Hoechstetter moved to Medical Clinic III at University Hospital Ulm (Prof. Döhner), where she worked for over three years as Medical Director of the postgraduate programme ‘Master Online Advanced Oncology’ in the Dean's Office of the Medical Faculty (Prof. Wirth) and as Medical Coordinator of the Comprehensive Cancer Centre Ulm (CCCU). In 2013, she moved to the Munich Clinic Schwabing, Clinic for Haematology, Oncology, Immunology, Palliative Medicine, Infectiology and Tropical Medicine (Prof. Dr. C. Wendtner) as a senior physician. There, she was the medical director of the study centre (focus: CLL, lymphomas, COVID-19) and the haematological-oncological day clinic, as well as providing oncological care for the ENT tumour board of the certified head and neck tumour centre MÜK Schwabing.
Dr. Hoechstetter has been involved in postgraduate teaching at the University of Ulm since 2010. In 2014, she was appointed chair of the international certificate course ‘Certificate of Competence in Lymphoma’ at the European School of Oncology, Bellinzona, Switzerland, and since 2016 she has been a core faculty member of the European School of Oncology. Since 2015, she has been a member of the Scientific Advisory Board for E-Learning of the German Society for Internal Medicine.
In June 2023, Dr. M. Hoechstetter was accepted as a postdoctoral lecturer in internal medicine at Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich.
